The current video for gold includes slow pace and long takes which contrasts to the fast pace song, at times panning shots are used and a hand held shot is used when filming her singing in the mirror. At times throughout the video, a pull focus is used this could represent the disorientation of the song as particularly the chorus is very edited which complements the edited camera techniques. Additionally, the editing reflects the meaning of the song being about a relationship which is falling apart, therefore it works better than if the focus and filming was perfect all the way through. Lip syncing is also a feature used, along with the actions and editing being in time with the music.

As the song is called Gold and there are references to gold throughout the mis-en-scene helps to reflect this. First of all there is a few men in the video painted gold which helps portray the theme of the song. Moreover, gold is linked to wealth and power, this is shown firstly through the costume choice. The studded jacket that the lead singer is wearing represents wealth and significance. She is also sat in a throne-like chair throughout and is the only one that sings/dances along with the music, which draws all the attention to her and gives her power throughout the video. The location choice is dark which could symbolise the basement that is referenced to. The other actors in the video are all alternative looking which symbolises the genre as not being a mainstream song such as pop, as it’s electro pop which is more alternative.

Why this song?

The main reason for choosing this song is because there is a significant theme that runs throughout and that is the theme of Gold. We felt that having a colour as the theme is a good starting point to be able to build upon and develop. Additionally, when listening to the song, the story and the way its being represented is something that stands out significantly and allows us to think of lots of different ways we could portray this ourselves through camera shots, editing, colours, props and actions to allow use to create our video to a good standard.
